X recently introduced a new feature that lets users broadcast live videos on the platform. Now, it looks like the company is testing a Twitch-like video game streaming feature.
Elon Musk shared a post from what seems to be his gaming handle – ‘@cyb3rgam3r420’, showcasing the new video game streaming featuring an hour of gameplay of Blizzard’s Diablo PvP arena. While the stream is watchable at best, as of now, there are no options to change the video quality.
Earlier this year in June, Musk had hinted that X would consider getting into the live video game streaming niche. Just a day before Musk’s reply to a post on X hinting the same, Twitch had introduced new rules that directly affected streamers who earned money from branded content. Following this, many video game players stopped streaming and jumped on to alternatives like YouTube Gaming and Facebook Live.
According to X’s marketing page, there were around 91 million gamers on the platform, with 70 tweets per second related to gaming between June 2020 and June 2021.
With X now directly taking on one of the largest video game streaming platforms in the world (Twitch), it will be interesting to see how much creators earn from its revenue generation program which was introduced 2 months ago. If video game streaming on X becomes popular and gamers flock to the new service, it might impact Twitch’s popularity.
X, formerly Twitter, has been adding new features like Articles to share long-form content with CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed that the platform will soon introduce native audio and video calling similar to WhatsApp.
