Tinder will use AI to analyse your photos and increase chances of matching

According to Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff, the feature will be a key part of Tinder's upcoming 2026 product experience and is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand.

The company is also integrating AI in other areas, such as an LLM-powered system that prompts users, "Are you sure?" before sending potentially inappropriate messages. Tinder is turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to refresh its dating platform. During Tuesday’s earnings call, Match Group, the company behind various dating apps, informed investors that Tinder is trialling a feature called Chemistry that will use questions to understand users better and, with permission, access Camera Roll photographs on users’ phones to gain insights into their personalities and interests.

According to Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff, the feature will be a key part of Tinder’s upcoming 2026 product experience and is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand.

Requesting access to users’ private Camera Roll photographs is not exclusive to Match. Additionally, Meta launched a feature last month that asks your phone’s AI to suggest edits for photos you haven’t yet shared.

In Match’s case, the company states that to suggest more compatible matches, it will ask users engaging questions and employ AI technology to learn more about them. For instance, if you have pictures of yourself hiking or climbing, you could be matched with someone who shares similar outdoor interests.

According to Match’s guidance for the fourth quarter, the product tests will result in a $14 million negative impact on Tinder’s direct revenue. Analysts projected $884.2 million, but this, along with other factors affecting the dating industry, has led to a revised Q4 estimate of between $865 million and $875 million.

The company is also integrating AI in other areas, such as an LLM-powered system that prompts users, “Are you sure?” before sending potentially inappropriate messages. Additionally, AI is being used to help users select their best images.

Tinder is aiming to boost subscribers and engagement through more than just AI. Other features introduced include facial verification, dating “modes”, double dates, and revamped profiles with prompts embedded into the photo carousel and bio information on the first photo card.
