Google Maps has added support for Apple Watch but its a very minimal effort
Google is rolling out an update for its Maps app in App Store that adds Apple Watch support. With the new update, Apple Watch users no longer need Apple’s own app for getting directions.
In an article, The Verge notes that ‘Google Maps is still a pretty minimal amount of effort for this first release‘. It says driving directions require users to scroll or swipe down to view the list while Apple’s own app lets users move through the list.

With new update, Google Maps makes it easier to compare ETAs across driving, transit, walking and biking directions right from your wrist. Apple Watch users can also call businesses and get directions directly from a list.
Earlier Google had released News and Weather app for Apple Watch which did not get rave reviews from critics. With Apple Watch OS2 now available for developers, Google could soon update its apps to offer cleaner and native experience.
