While there are plenty of fantastic password manager apps, the best of the lot are locked behind a paywall. However, if you are an iPhone user, you can use the world-class password manager free of cost, as part of the iOS 18 update.
Apple Password Manager, a free app available on devices running on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and visionOS 2, can help users protect their credentials for different apps and digital services.
Unlike most password managers, which store credentials in a plain text format, Apple’s Password Manager stores them in an encrypted format, and each time a user has to access the information from the manager, she/he has to authenticate their identity using Face ID, Touch ID, or password. Hence, even if someone gets access to your iPhone or iPad, they won’t be able to steal these credentials.
Data breaches have become fairly common. If your passwords are compromised, this app will notify you about it and one can change the passwords to secure accounts.
Password Manager also supports password sharing with family members, and it also supports Passkeys, making logging into various services without a password a lot easier. The app can also help you suggest passwords while creating new ones. These passwords are synced via iCloud, enabling users to access them across devices.
Users with eligible Apple devices will receive the Password Manager app once they update to the latest version, and users can also remove the app or re-download it from the App Store as and when required.
