Apple iOS 10 will give a little bit more control. Starting with iOS 10 beta, Apple will allow iPhone and iPad users to “remove” some built-in apps, and download them again later. Apple has put out a support page highlighting exactly how to go about removing these apps, but points out that removing some apps could affect overall system functions.

The unbundling of built-in apps is the latest initiative by major software manufacturers. Google recently allowed OEMs to stop installing Google Play services from their smartphones which in process saves a lot of space. The move has already been confirmed by users who have downloaded the beta software. Apple is, however, not letting users to uninstall some of the core apps like Messages, Photos and Camera.

Apple’s support page says removing Contacts app won’t delete contact information and it can only be removed from iPhone, not iPad or iPod. Users can still find all of their contact information in the Phone app.

The page also lists some compatibility issues which will take place if you ‘remove’ some of the apps.

1) If you have an Apple Watch paired with your iPhone, removing an app from your iPhone Home screen also removes that app from your Apple Watch Home screen.

2) If you remove the Podcasts app from your Home screen, Podcasts won’t be available with CarPlay.

3) If you remove the Stocks or Weather app from your Home screen, stocks and weather won’t be available elsewhere. For example, you won’t see stocks and weather information in Notification Center on your iPhone or as Complications or Glances on your Apple Watch.

4) If you remove the Calculator app, the calculator won’t appear in Control Center.

Of course, a lot of people will be just happy to let go of Stocks, Podcasts, etc. Also in the current beta version, users can’t remove the News app, which will be an option later on.
