WhatsApp users can now set minute long voice message as status

The feature is currently available for those on the latest beta, but it is still unclear if and when it will make its way on the stable channel.

WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform with billions of users worldwide, will soon let users set voice messages up to a minute long as status updates.

While the current version of WhatsApp allows users to share 30-second-long voice messages as status updates, a recent report by WABetaInfo suggests that the functionality has been upgraded to support voice messages up to a minute long, which is double the previous limit.

The extended voice note duration is really helpful for users who share status updates in the form of voice notes as they will no longer have to split their audio recordings into multiple parts. In the long run, this will help save time and make the communication processor much more convenient.

As seen in the screenshot above, some users who are on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android and iOS can now set a minute-long voice note as their status. However, you may have to update your WhatsApp to the latest version to listen to these voice notes.

To set voice notes as status updates, open WhatsApp on your phone, head over to the ‘Updates’ tab from the bottom bar and tap on the pencil-like icon. Now, tap on the microphone icon on the bottom right of the screen and you will be able to record a voice note, which can then be shared as a status update.

The ability to set minute-long voice messages as status updates is currently limited to a handful of users who on the latest beta and will roll out to more beta testers in the coming days, but it is still unclear if and when it will be available to everyone.

In the last few weeks, WhatsApp has been constantly testing and adding new features like the ability to set AI-generated photos as profile pictures, prevent users from taking screenshots of profile pictures on iPhones and a redesigned voice call UI to name a few.
