Instagram has introduced a feature that lets users add a song to their profile. The new functionality is pretty similar to the now barren social media platform Myspace.
The song will appear in the description but won’t automatically play when you visit someone’s profile and requires users to tap to hear it. The new feature was launched in collaboration with the popular singer Sabrina Carpenter, whose profile now has a teaser of her upcoming song “Taste”.
The process to add a song to your profile is pretty straightforward.
1. Open Instagram on your phone and tap on your profile picture from the bottom bar.
2. Now, click on the ‘Edit profile and you will see an option named Music with text to the right that says “Add music to your profile”.
3. On the page that appears, tap on “Pick a song for your profile” and Instagram will show you a list of songs or find the one you like.
4. Once you choose the song you want to add to your profile, you will be asked to select a 30 second segment that will be added to your profile.
Unlike Reels, any song you add to your profile will remain there unless you change or remove it manually. Also, users can only add one song to their profile.
Recently, Instagram was spotted testing a redesigned profile grid layout alongside a new Snapchat like feature that lets users keep friends updated on their location.
