While most of us might want phablet-sized phones, there are a handful of people interested in a compact phone that offers flagship features at a much lower price compared to their high-end counterparts. If you are confused between the Apple iPhone 15 and the Samsung Galaxy S24, here's a quick comparison that might help you decide between the two. Design and display The vanilla models in the Galaxy S24 series as well as the iPhone 15 series feature a flat display with an aluminium frame, which is pretty much in line with their predecessors. However, they differ significantly when it comes to design. On the front, you get a punch-hole display on the Galaxy S24 while the iPhone 15 borrows the Dynamic Island from the iPhone 14 Pro series. They also have distinctive backs, with Samsung opting for minimalistic individual cutouts for every camera lens while Apple has gone with a huge camera island that resides on the top left. Both phones look pretty similar to their predecessors. The Galaxy S24 is slightly (4 grams ) lighter than the iPhone 15 but packs a slightly larger (6.2-inch vs 6.1-inch) screen. These phones get pretty bright under direct sunlight and have a similar resolution, but when it comes to scrolling through apps and messages, the Galaxy S24 takes the lead with its high refresh rate 120Hz display compared to the iPhone 15's 60Hz screen. Software When it comes to user experience, the iPhone 15 will suit you better if you already own an Apple device or are part of the ecosystem. On the software front, both devices are powered by different operating systems, so this is a personal preference. However, the Galaxy S24 with its AI-powered features and seven years of OS and security updates compared to the iPhone's five-year update policy means you might be able to make the most of your Galaxy phone compared to Apple's offering. Also, there is no always on-display on the iPhone 15, while the Galaxy S24's LTPO screen helps save battery when the feature is enabled. In terms of user experience, the iPhone 15 can do the same things as your previous iPhone did but the Galaxy S24 has some pretty useful AI-powered tricks up its sleeve. It comes with Galaxy AI, which brings several generative AI-powered functionalities like live call translation, 'Chat Assist' and 'Circle to Search'. Performance The Indian version of the Galaxy S24 packs the Exynos 2400 chipset, which we have no real-world benchmarks of while the iPhone 15 features Apple's very own A16 Bionic chipset, which also powered the iPhone 14 Pro models. When it comes to raw performance, we will have to wait and see which is the better of the two, but regular users will barely notice any stutters or lag even with multiple apps open in the background. Camera The Samsung Galaxy S24 packs a 50MP primary camera backed by a 12MP ultrawide shooter and a 10MP telephoto lens that offers 3x optical zoom. The iPhone 15 has the same 48MP shooter as the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max along with a 12MP ultrawide, but lacks a dedicated telephoto lens. If you are someone who likes to take portrait shots, the Galaxy S24 might be a better option. Comparing both devices when it comes to image quality is not possible right now since Samsung is yet to ship the Galaxy S24 series, but the Samsung phone might excel when it comes to still photos while the iPhone 15 might excel when it comes to videos. One notable difference between the two is that the Galaxy S24 can record in 8K while the iPhone 15 is capped at 4K resolution. Battery On paper, the Galaxy S24 has a larger battery compared to the iPhone 15's battery, but Apple's software optimization might mean both devices will have a similar screen on time. These devices have similar charging speeds, with Samsung and Apple claiming that the phone can be charged to 50 per cent in 30 minutes. The Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 offer 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging, which can be used to charge your earbuds or smartwatches by keeping them on the back of the phone. Price Both Galaxy S24 and the iPhone 15 are priced in the same price bracket. At the time of writing, Samsung's compact flagship can be purchased for Rs 79,999 whereas the iPhone 15 starts from Rs 79,990. Depending on what you need, you can go with either of them since they cost the same. Verdict The Android vs iOS war has been going on for more than a decade now. While there is no clear winner between the two, if you are more inclined towards generative AI features that will make your phone more useful and want more software updates, the Galaxy S24 is a no-brainer. However, if you are looking for an Apple device, the vanilla iPhone 15 is one of the best phones from the company that offers great value for money.
