Apple has been using a 12 MP selfie camera on iPhones for a while now. According to the latest report by industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will include an upgraded 24 MP selfie camera on the future iPhone 17 series. The new selfie camera on the iPhone 17 is not just offering a higher resolution, but it is also said to pack a 6P lens system for enhanced image clarity, while the current iPhone 15 series has a 12 MP selfie camera with a 5P lens system.

Yujingguang, a Taiwan-based company is reported to provide the new lens system for the iPhone 17, which is said to be 100 to 120 per cent more expensive than the current 5P lens system.

Similarly, the same company is also said to be working on the periscope lens setup for the iPhone 16 Pro, where, both models are expected to pack an enhanced zoom camera, which is currently limited to the bigger and more expensive iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro series is also expected to feature a high-resolution 48 MP ultra-wide angle lens (0.7um/(1/2.6″) for the first time on an iPhone along with a 48 MP wide angle lens. It looks like, the telephoto lens on the upcoming iPhone models might remain at 12 MP resolution.

As per the report, the iPhone 16 Pro series is expected to take smartphone photography to the next level, and the upcoming iPhone 17 seems to pack even more features, which is likely to offer much-improved performance on the front-facing camera in terms of both photography and videography.
