Apple iPhone 16 series dummies have surfaced online months ahead of the September launch event. While the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max look identical to their predecessors, the base iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus could introduce a minor design revamp, featuring a vertical dual-camera island and an action button across the lineup.

According to a Weibo post, despite their similar form factor, the iPhone 16 Pro series is said to be significantly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro series, while the non-pro models remain identical to their predecessors with a minor design change.

As per earlier leaks, the iPhone 16 Pro will come with a large 6.3-inch display and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get a 6.9-inch screen, the biggest display that Apple has ever shipped on an iPhone. The display on the base models — iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will remain identical to the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus, offering a 6.1-inch, and a 6.7-inch screen, respectively.

Given their bigger display, the iPhone 16 Pro series could become heavier than their predecessor, and they are also expected to pack a much bigger battery. According to a report by Ross Young, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will continue to include a 60Hz display, while the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a 120Hz refresh rate display like their predecessors.

The overall fit and finish of the iPhone 16 series is likely to remain similar to the iPhone 15 series with a slightly curved frame, and just like their predecessors, the iPhone 16 Pro series is expected to flaunt a titanium frame, while the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will come with an aluminium frame. With more internal space to work with, just like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 Pro is said to gain a new telephoto lens featuring a tetra prism lens arrangement with support for up to 5x optical zoom along with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Apple is finally upgrading the design of the camera island on the iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Plus, replacing the horizontally positioned cameras, which were first introduced on the iPhone 13 with a vertical camera array, similar to the iPhone X. One of the reasons for the reposition of the cameras is said to enable Spatial or 3D video recording on these iPhones, which can be watched on Apple Vision Pro.

The repositioned camera unit will also make it easy for users to distinguish between the iPhone 16 and the previous generation models.

All four models of the iPhone 16 series will offer USB-C port and this time around, even the base models will replace the dated mute switch in favour of the new Action Button, introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro series. The Action Button is also said to be slightly bigger in size and is almost as big as the volume button.

Besides the Action Button, according to the dummies, Apple could also introduce an all-new “capture button” that’s located on the right side, just above the mmWave antenna (on US models), this was first reported by The Information, where, the new capture button, instead of being a physical button is said to be based on capacitive touch technology that’s sensitive to pressure.

All four models of the iPhone 16 will be unveiled in September and will ship with iOS 18 packed with a host of AI features, which will be introduced on June 10 at the upcoming WWDC 2024 developers’ conference.
