Huawei is apparently working on a smartphone with a quad camera setup and up to 10x optical zoom. President of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group for the Western European region –Walter Ji told Android Pit that the company intends to launch a phone with four cameras on the back and 10x optical zoom in 2019. Though it won’t be the first phone with a quad-camera setup, as Samsung recently launched the Galaxy A9 (2018) with four cameras on the back.
In an interview, Ji told the publication that one camera sensor on the forthcoming flagship smartphone will offer 10x optical zoom. In comparison, the company’s existing P20 Pro offers 3x optical zoom or up to 5x digital zoom without quality loss. Currently, the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro are the only smartphones in the world to support 3x optical zoom, as most other phones (including the iPhone XS Max) come with a 2x optical zoom. At the moment, we do not know whether the new camera technology will be available on the P30 Pro, which is rumoured to launch in the first half of 2019.
