Apple today unveiled the much anticipated iPad mini with Apple Intelligence features. Powered by the A17 Pro chip, the tech giant’s latest pocket-sized tablet features an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display.

To give you a quick recap, the last iPad mini was launched three years ago and was powered by the A15 Bionic chipset, which also powers the iPhone 13 series. Compared to its predecessor, Apple says that the new iPad mini packs a 30 per cent faster CPU and a 25 faster GPU with support for features like ray tracing, hardware-accelerated mesh shading and Dynamic Caching. Apple says the new chipset also packs a Neural Engine that is as fast as the previous model.

Another change is that the base version of the new iPad mini comes with 128GB storage, which is double compared to the 2021 iPad mini (review). While the design of the new iPad mini is the same as its predecessor. As opposed to new iPads, all of which sport the new M-series chips, the iPad mini (7th gen) is the only one that is still powered by a mobile chip.

While it has the same 12MP rear camera as its predecessor, the new iPad mini gets Smart HDR 4 support, thanks to the much faster Neural Engine. Apple says the new tablet can also leverage AI to automatically identify documents from the Camer app and use the new True Tone flash to remove shadows. On the other hand, the front camera also supports Center Stage, which keeps users in focus even if they move around.

Available in four colourways – blue, purple, starlight and space grey, the new iPad mini starts at Rs 49,900 for the Wi-Fi-only model, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model is priced at Rs 64,900. It is also available in 256GB and 512GB storage configurations. The new iPad mini is currently available for pre-order in 29 countries including the United States and India and will be coming to the Apple Store and Apple Authorised Resellers starting October 23.

However, you will have to purchase the Apple Pencil Pro and the Apple Pencil (USB-C) separately for Rs 11,900 and Rs 7,900 respectively. Customers can also trade in their current iPad and get credit for the new one from Apple’s online and offline stores.
