Apple recently updated its iPhone lineup, but the iPad mini series is yet to get a refresh. Now, a new report suggests Apple might unveil the iPad mini 7 sometime later this year.

According to DigiTimes, iPad shipments are falling but could soon pick up because of an upcoming ‘new small-size iPad’ expected to launch in the last quarter of 2023.

The publication gets its information about part suppliers and is often accurate, but we recommend you take this report with a grain of salt since it is not always accurate about Apple product launches.

While there are no concrete details on what the new iPad will pack in terms of hardware, some suggest it might come with an upgraded chipset, most likely the A16 Bionic, since the A17 Pro might make it more expensive than the 2021 model.

The tech giant is also expected to bring the ProMotion display to the 8.3-inch iPad along with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support. It might also feature an upgraded camera setup and bring Photo Engine to the smaller model.

While known tipsters like Mark Gurman and AppleShrimpPro agree with DigiTimes’ prediction about Apple unveiling the iPad mini 7 later this year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says he does not expect the new iPad mass production to start before early 2024.

To give you a quick recap, the iPad mini 6 is powered by the A15 Bionic chipset and already comes with a USB Type-C port for charging, so if Apple launches the iPad mini 7 before the end of 2023, the upgrade might bring minor spec bumps and have the same design as its predecessor.
