(Image Source: Sony) Rockstar Games on Monday announces the launch of the original Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch and the Sony PlayStation 4. The digital version of the game will be available for purchase starting August 17 whereas the physical edition will go on sale from October 13.
For quite some time, the rumour mill had speculated that the gaming studio was working on a remake, but the recent announcement suggests it is simply a port and won’t feature any new content or updated visuals. Also, the Switch and PlayStation 4 versions will miss out on the multiplayer aspect of the game.
However, Rockstar will be bundling the Undead Nightmare DLC (unveiled with the Game of the Year edition) that puts Marston against hordes of zombies, who then sets out on a mission to search for a cure.
While PlayStation 5 owners will be able to play Red Dead Redemption thanks to backward compatibility with PlayStation 4 titles, the Xbox 360 version of the game is already playable on the latest Xbox console. As of now, there is no word if Rockstar Games plans to bring the decade-old classic to PC.
Originally launched in 2010 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption is set after the events of the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 and follows the life of John Marston, an outlaw who sets out on a journey ‘in the vast expanses of the American West and Mexico to track down the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang in a bid to save his family’.
Red Dead Redemption will be available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop and PlayStation Store for $49.99 (approx. Rs 4,140). Those interested in the game can add the title to their wishlist so they get a notification when it becomes available.
