Lately, there has been a lot of chatter around OpenAI and its future models. In July, it was reported that the AI powerhouse was working on a new approach to AI models under a project code-named ‘Strawberry’. Now, a report by The Information suggests that OpenAI researchers are gearing up to launch the new AI model that was previously known as Project Q* (Q-star). The AI model that OpenAI is being secretive about has reportedly demonstrated superior reasoning capabilities in solving complex problems.
So far, OpenAI has been tight-lipped about the project and no information was available in the public domain about this project. From various sources, it seems the Strawberry models have been developed to not only answer but also plan and even navigate the internet autonomously. The Sam Altman-led company has reportedly termed the project as ‘deep research’.
Based on the report by The Information, Project Strawberry could be integrated into ChatGPT sometime this fall (September – October) and this would mark a significant leap in AI intelligence. Reportedly, with extra thinking time, the Strawberry model can handle subjective topics and even solve complex puzzles like the New York Times Connections.
The report also states that OpenAI is using Strawberry to generate high-quality training data for another secretive upcoming LLM. This LLM is reportedly code-named as Orion. The new model could likely enhance OpenAI’s development of AI agents. This could potentially automate multi-step tasks more efficiently.
The Project Strawberry, if lives up to the hype, could be a big leap in AI owing to its advanced reasoning capabilities pushing OpenAI closer to its ambition of Artificial General Intelligence. Now, if OpenAI integrates Strawberry into ChatGPT, it could be the next big wave of AI disruption after November 2022 when ChatGPT was first introduced.
