Elon Musk has been teasing xAI’s first AI chatbot – Grok for quite a while now. In a recent post on X, he confirmed that the chatbot will be available for X Premium+ subscribers next week.
Announced earlier this month, Musk says Grok was created by a group of engineers who have previously worked with the likes of Google, OpenAI and Deep Mind. Musk claims that Grok has an advantage over popular large language models like ChatGPT and Bard since it can offer real-time access to information on X and help deliver news without bias. The voice-ready AI chatbot is also trained to include some humour and a hint of sarcasm in its replies.
Based on a knowledge base called ‘The Pile’ and trained on data available on X, Grok is also said to get features like image and audio recognition, which were added to ChatGPT almost a year after its launch.
Other features that make it from the rest of the competition include a 25,000-character context window, a live search engine based on X, fast response speed and compatibility with Tesla vehicles. When it comes to benchmarks, Grok is more capable than OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 but seems to be less capable than the company’s GPT-4, which powers Microsoft Copilot.
According to a post on X by a user who goes by the name Nima Owji, Grok will be available as an in-app feature to Premium Plus subscribers, with those on cheaper plans. The introduction of Grok might also help X increase its premium subscriber count, which is something the company has been struggling with for some time.
Currently, X Premium subscription is divided into three tiers with the Basic subscription offering features like the ability to edit posts without removing ads, X Premium with half the ads and the recently introduced X Premium Plus, which costs Rs 1,300 per month, removes all ads and includes a Creator Hub.
