Google Gemini was previously known as Google Bard. (Express Photo)Google is reportedly working on a YouTube Music extension for Gemini, its in-house ChatGPT-like AI-powered chatbot. The integration might allow users to search and play their favourite songs as well as discover new music.
According to a recent report by Android Authority, the feature was first spotted by the known Android tinkerer Assemble Debug, who was then able to activate the new YouTube Music extension in the Google app v15.17.28.29.arm64.

Once enabled, Gemini’s YouTube Music extension allowed the user to play and search for their favourite songs and playlists, listen to new music and even play a radio based on their mood. The report suggests that Gemini uses data like playlists, playback history and preferences from your YouTube Music account.
Visible on the Gemini’s Extension page, the YouTube Music extension also lets users get results from YouTube and opens the YouTube Music app when users tap on a search result. In case you don’t have the app on your device, Gemini will open a web version of the music service.
While the functionality is currently not live in Google Gemini, the report suggests that Google is planning to roll out the extension soon. To give you a quick recap, Google’s AI chatbot already has a bunch of useful extensions like Flights, Maps, YouTube and Hotels. Google also seems to be working on new shortcuts for Gemini that would allow users to quickly switch back to Google Assistant, turn off Gemini Advanced and a shortcut that toggles “Live prompts”.
