OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT is now back online after being inaccessible to some users for hours. The outage was reported around 1 pm. However, now, it seems the users can access ChatGPT. We tested on both desktop and mobile apps, and the chatbot is working just fine.
Earlier today, some users reported that the website is not accessible, others said they were unable to generate responses. At that point, we tried to access the service on the desktop, and the AI chatbot did not let us input any prompts and showed a red text message that said ‘Internal Server Error’. We also attempted to use the chatbot on an iPhone. However, it showed similar results.
According to Downdetector, the website that tracks the online status of various services, the outage started somewhere around 1 pm IST. Even OpenAI’s status page suggested that ChatGPT was unavailable for some users and that they were currently investigating the issue.
Now, OpenAI’s support page indicates that the company identified the root cause of the issue and that they are “continuing to work on a fix for this issue.”
However, the support page indicates that the API is currently operational, meaning any third-party services that rely on OpenAI’s technology may be working normally.
Several X users shared their thoughts on the outage. While some resorted to sharing memes, some simply expressed their displeasure.
For the uninitiated, ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot that takes texts and images as input and lets you ask anything you want to know. Soon after its launch in late 2022, the chatbot skyrocketed in popularity and had more than 100 million users in just two months.
This is the second time ChatGPT is facing a downtime this year. On February 14, the chatbot suffered a massive outage worldwide. The outage started at 8:00 pm IST and it lasted up to around 10:30 pm.
