Hailing from Malappuram, Kerala, the 23-year-old Puthur’s debut is an interesting development, particularly when the left-arm wrist-spinner has not featured in any match for his state at the senior level.

Puthur came onto bowl for MI in the eighth over of a 155-run defense. The left-arm wrist-spinner then dismissed a well-set CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who holed out to long-off on 53. In his second over, Puthur foxed the hard-hitting Shivam Dube with a googly that nearly dismissed him stumped before producing another breakthrough. The CSK southpaw attempted a huge slog down the ground but ended up caught at the long-on fence. The wily spinner followed up with a third wicket in his next over, dismissing Deepak Hooda. He eventually bowled out with figures of 3/32.
Son of an auto-rickshaw driver, Puthur has only played for Kerala at the under-14 and under-19 level. He was noted by MI scouts when he turned up for Alleppey Ripples during the Kerala Cricket League last year, where he only picked up two wickets from his three matches. Puthur also had a stint in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Puthur made the cut for the KCL T20 tournament after his impressive performances for his Jolly Rovers Cricket Club in Perinthalmanna before eventually being signed up by MI at the Mega Auction table in November 2024.
