With SRH chasing victory in both their remaining IPL matches, the SRH vs GT IPL match on Thursday is under a cloud after it started raining in the city of Hyderabad just hours before the match was to start. The covers at the stadium in Uppal had come off briefly around 7:15 pm IST, but with the toss delayed and rains looming large over the ground, the covers came back on at 7:55pm, according to a reporter from The Indian Express at the stadium for the IPL match.
While the rains seem to ease up in some parts of the city of Hyderabad, a tweet from the official Twitter account of the Director Of Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation said: “Heavy rainfall is expected today in Hyderabad city. Till 6pm there is a break in rainfall today and may resume after 6pm. Citizens may plan their travel accordingly.”
This was predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier as well.
The IMD had forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, with occasional intense spells and gusty winds for Thursday evening and night in the Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally zones of Hyderabad.
If the SRH vs GT IPL match is washed out on Thursday, both teams will split a point each. Before the SRH vs GT IPL match, Hyderabad were fourth in the IPL 2024 standings with 14 points from 12 IPL matches so far. Gujarat Titans were, meanwhile, already out of the running for the IPL 2024 playoffs. The GT franchise has accumulated 11 points from their 13 games so far.
This means that Hyderabad will have 15 points from 13 IPL matches while Gujarat Titans end their IPL 2024 campaign with 12 points.
This would put SRH in third spot at least temporarily, but CSK could overhaul them with a win over RCB on Saturday. it must be noted there are chances of the RCB vs CSK game also being washed out.
Hyderabad will need to win their final match against Punjab Kings on Sunday, once again at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal.
