Mo Salah in action. (FILE photo)Former Liverpool captain and club legend Steven Gerrard has said that he respected Mohamed Salah being unhappy over not featuring in matches for the side, but admitted that his words about being thrown under the bus were wrong. The 45-year-old said that he needed to reverse those comments a bit and work with manager Arne Slot to deal with the present issue.
“He’s obviously really upset that he’s not playing, which I respect. He won’t sit out of the team. I respect. A couple of lines about throwing people under the bus, wrong. Need to reverse that a little bit away from that; he needs to deal with that with the manager,” Gerrard told TNT Sports.
Gerrard also urged club captain Virgil van Dijk to step in and resolve the existing issue, if not for the sake of the club, then surely for the sake of Liverpool fans.
“This needs Virgil van Dijk to go, ‘I was sorting this out for the benefit of not even so much of the club or the team. It’s the fans,’ he said.

He added that he had been a witness to similar incidents during his playing days at Liverpool, adding that Salah might regret his comments when he looks back at them later on.
“I have seen this. I have lived it. I have lived it with (Luis) Suarez when he fell out with Brendan (Rodgers) face-to-face. I have been there myself from a personal point of view. No one’s perfect. We have all had head loss as players.”
“We have all done emotional things where we think, ‘oh,’ and I know in time when all this calms, Mo will go, ‘I should not have said that’. I maybe should have not said that. I was maybe a bit emotional. I was a bit hasty. But at the end of the day, Liverpool football club need Mo Salah back playing well, back scoring goals because he is the best player, the best scorer, and he will help them get out of this. If this goes on, this is bigger than what we all know and what we see,” he said.
