The Indian bowling attack made short work out of the West Indies batting order as the visitors removed six host batters inside a span of nine overs and 17 runs to secure a 193 run lead from the first innings in the Trinidad Test.

While Mohammed Siraj managed his second Test fifer since his famous spell at Gabba in early 2021, debutant Mukesh Kumar managed to finish his first spell in India’s whites with a brace. Ravindra Jadeja would also pick two wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin also got a scalp.

Restarting their first innings at 229/5, the West Indies lost their first wicket on Day 4 courtesy of Mukesh Kumar, who removed Alick Athanaze before Siraj breathed fire by picking four wickets off four overs.

With West Indies having avoided follow on, India were forced to bat second innings early in the first session.

Day three of the second Test had seen only 67 overs of action following rain causing multiple halts. Which is why, with the sun out on Sunday morning at the Port of Spain, the action started 30 minutes earlier than the stipulated time.

Earlier, the visitors had scored 438 runs in their first innings courtesy of a century from Virat Kohli and fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. India are looking for a series sweep after having won the first Test in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs inside three-and-a-half days.
