Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna was struck on the head while batting on Day 2 of the second India A vs Australia A multi-day Test at Lucknow on Wednesday. The Karnataka bowler suffered the blow while attempting a pull shot off Henry Thornton in the 39th over and, while he continued batting despite the injury, was later replaced by Yash Thakur as a concussion substitute for the rest of the match.

An ESPNCricinfo report said that the lanky pacer returned to the dressing room after the 42nd over of the innings with his score on 16. A source within the team brushed aside all concerns of any major injury to the fast bowler.

“He looks fine at the moment. We are monitoring him and a decision will be taken tomorrow,” a team source told PTI.

Thornton later said that he enquired with Prasidh if he was fine after the blow. He added that the pacer may have suffered a delayed concussion since he had begun to feel dizzy a little while after he was struck on the head.

“It got him pretty flush. I asked him if he was alright and he said he was okay. I think it was the delayed kind of concussion. I was going to bowl the next over to him and he started getting headaches and dizziness. It just got him in a really bad spot. I hope he’s all right,” he was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

The pacer claimed figures of 1/76 in 17 overs in the first innings, where all the India A bowlers were made to toil. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar emerged as the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 5/107 in 32 overs. India A were bowled out for 194 runs in their first innings, conceding a lead of 226 runs.

Prasidh is one of the fast bowlers in contention to be picked for the two-match Test series against West Indies starting in Ahmedabad on October 2. After enduring a mediocre start, he had bounced back in impressive fashion in the fifth and final Test match against England at The Oval, where he took a match haul of 8/188. His exploits helped India win the match by five runs to level the series 2-2.
