IND vs WI 1st Test Match Date, Time: It is back to the grind of Test cricket for India after a roller coaster ride in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where they won the Asia Cup T20 title. Before that, India had started a new era under the captaincy of Shubman Gill with a Test series in England that is being regarded as among the greatest of this century. India remarkably managed to draw the series 2-2 and Gill in particular showed that he was the rightful heir to the captaincy role, impressing with his leadership on the field and scoring a record-breaking 754 runs in the series.

The two-match Test series against the West Indies is India’s first at home since they suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand last year. That series marked the end of an era in multiple ways. For starters, India’s storied dominance at home ended after having won every series all the way back to 2013. Moreover, it ended up being the last Test at home involving the senior trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Here’s a look at all the details

Key player to watch out for: Sai Sudharsan had a bit of a topsy-turvy ride in the England tour, being dropped after a forgettable pouting in his debut Test and then seemingly being deemed as India’s next prime contender for the No.3 spot left vacant by Cheteshwar Pujara. He only scored 140 runs in the three Tests he got to eventually play in England but the 23-year-old has the chance to make his case stronger if he can capitalise on the home conditions and the unheralded nature of the West Indies side overall.

India vs West Indies pitch report

Early reports indicate a healthy covering of grass on the pitch in Ahmedabad two days before the first Test. Now this may be partly due to the weather conditions – Ahmedabad has experienced rainy weather in the past few days, but it could also be a response to what happened to India against New Zealand last year. India had prepared rank turners for the Kiwis and that ended up backfiring with the likes of Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips ripping the hosts’ batting lineup to shreds.
