President Droupadi Murmu will preside over a two-day conference of Governors beginning Friday in which issues such as the implementation of the three new criminal laws, reforms in higher education and development in tribal areas will be discussed.
This will be the first conference of Governors to be presided over by Murmu, officials said. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet secretariat and other Union ministries will attend the conference.
The Governors’ role in campaigns like “MYBharat”, “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and “Ek Vriksha Maa ke Naam”, natural farming, enhancing public connect and ensuring better coordination among central agencies in the state will be discussed at the conference, officials said.
In the concluding session, presentations will be made before the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister and other participants, the officials added.
The conference comes days after the President appointed nine new Governors.
All eyes on Medigadda as KTR’s water pumping deadline ends
Friday is the deadline set for the Revanth Reddy government by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former Telangana minister K T Rama Rao to begin pumping water from the pump house at Medigadda, a key component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
The former minister, popularly known as KTR, last week had said if the Congress government failed to begin pumping water by August 2, his party, along with 50,000 farmers would storm the pump house and forcibly start the pumps to release Godavari water to the command area.
Incidentally, the previous BRS government has come under fire from the Congress for alleged corruption in irrigation projects, after a pier at Medigadda collapsed. It had also come under fire from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) for the mishap.
First Andhra Cabinet meet after Union Budget
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, will meet on Friday. A note in this regard was issued by Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad.
This is the first time that the Chandrababu Naidu-led Cabinet will meet after the Centre in the Union Budget announced various sops for the state. The Cabinet is likely to discuss the implementation of various development projects and schemes.
