Mitra rejoins Cong, attacks Mamata

Somen Mitra had resigned as Trinamool Congress MP last week.

Mitra, who had resigned as Trinamool Congress MP last week, especially targeted CM Mamata Banerjee saying her government was scared of a CBI probe into the chit fund scams.

Somen Mitra, who had quit the Congress in 2007, rejoined the party Tuesday and immediately launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool government in West Bengal on the issues of atrocities against women and chit fund scams.

Mitra, who had resigned as Trinamool Congress MP last week, especially targeted CM Mamata Banerjee saying her government was scared of a CBI probe into the chit fund scams as “so many skeletons could come out of its (TMC) cupboard and so many heads might roll.”

“Their own MP, Kunal Ghosh, was involved…If Mamata is that honest why does not she accept the demand for a CBI probe,” Mitra said. “It (chit fund schemes) destroyed the lives of so many poor people, while a few sharks got wealthy. I wrote to the PM and it angered Mamata,” he added.

Mitra said women were no longer safe in the state. “Mamata visited ailing Suchitra Sen in hospital every day. We have no problem with that. But we have a problem when we see that she has no time to visit the house of the gangrape victim at Madhyamgram,” Mitra said.

Meanwhile, a number of Congress leaders, including former president of the state mahila Congress Maitree Saha and former PCC vice-president Nityananda De, left the party to join the Triamool Congress.
