Congress workers protest BJP attack on PM Manmohan Singh

Police use water cannons to disperse protesters after they stormed barricades outside BJP HQ.

Hundreds of Youth Congress workers on Wednesday gathered outside the BJP headquarters at Ashoka Road to protest against the saffron party’s continuous demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Congress activists questioned the right of the BJP to raise their demand, when its former government in Karnataka had been removed by the people due to its corrupt ways.

Delhi Police used water cannons to disperse the agitating Congress workers after they stormed the three-tiered barricades. However, the activists refused to budge from the protest site.

Holding flags and banners, the protesters said that the BJP must stop asking for the Prime Minister’s resignation.

On Sunday, hundreds of BJP youth wing activists had clashed with police when they were stopped from marching towards Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence to demand his resignation and proper probe into scams against the UPA government.

Led by their leader Anurag Thakur, the Yuva Morcha activists, holding placards and shouting slogans, started their march from Aurangzeb Road. Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel had also joined the protest along with his supporters.

“With this demonstration,we demand that the PM ought to speak up and also demand proper investigation into the scams and cases of corruption against Congress and its Ministers, coming out in the news on a daily basis,” Thakur said.
