BJP-led Govt to blame for spurt in black money: Yechury

Senior CPM leader Sitaram Yechury attributed the spurt in black money to decisions taken by the BJP-led government.

Terming senior BJP leader L K Advani as a “hypocrite” over his allegations on the black money stashed in Swiss banks, senior CPM leader Sitaram Yechury attributed the spurt in black money to decisions taken by the BJP-led government.

“Advani is being hypocritical. Unless he revives four decisions taken by the NDA government, how can we get back the black money from Swiss banks,” said Yechury.

Claiming that the Left parties were the first to raise the issue of black money,Yechury said ‘we have no complaints if Advani is also raising the same issue.’

“We raised the topic because the US procured the right to access information about accounts in Swiss banks. We told the Prime Minister that if they can get the permission, why can’t we,” he said.

The decisions of the NDA regime which should be reversed include repeal of FERA and bringing FEMA in its place, strengthening of the Mauritius route to Swiss banks, abolition of long-term capital gain and nod for participatory notes,Yechury said.

“Advani’s demands will get credibility if BJP announces that it will reverse these decisions,” the CPM leader said. “Unfortunately,BJP has not mentioned it in their manifesto,” he said.
