A B Bardhan admitted to hospital

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan was admitted to a hospital after he complained of giddiness while addressing a farmers' rally here.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan was on Thursday admitted to a hospital after he complained of giddiness while addressing a farmers’ rally here.

Barely four minutes into his speech at the rally,the veteran Communist leader started feeling uneasy and sat back on a chair.

According to doctors at the Apex hospital here,the senior Left leader is running a high fever and is recuperating in the private medical facility.

Earlier during his speech Bardhan asked farmers to fight in order to retain their land that is being acquired by capitalists in the name of development.

“The farmers now have to fight for retaining the land they own,as capitalists are purchasing their land at the behest of politicians in the name of development,” he said,addressing the 28th convention of the Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha (ABKS) which began here.

Bardhan said on one hand the Government is talking about food security,but on the other vast tracts of land were being snatched from farmers.

The ABKS should protect farmers from becoming landless,the CPI leader maintained.

Speaking on the occasion,retired Judge B N Deshmukh said,”given the current plight of the peasants in the country,it seems a “kisan kranti” (farmer revolution) is the need of the hour.”

Politicians are making policies that would benefit the capitalists. The farmers should be given pension to meet their financial needs,he said.

The four-day convention,on the first day,passed a proposal calling upon the government to pay Rs 2,000 per month to farmers as financial assistance.

Communist leaders like Atulkumar Anjan and Gurudas Dasgupta were among those present on the occasion.

Earlier in the day,a rally was organised which was attended by farmers who have come here from different parts of the country.
