Preach and persuade
The RSS has claimed that the CBIs arrest of Swami Aseemanand,on charges of terror links,is a conspiracy to discredit him and stall his efforts to prevent the conversion of Hindus by Christian missionaries in areas like the Dang district in Gujarat.
Secret societies
The lead editorial in Organiser titled JPC-scared Radia active oligarchy says that a thorough probe into the functioning in the telecom ministry has become imperative in the wake of the leaked Niira Radia tapes. The conversations …now exposed, cast serious aspersions on the appointment of ministers, the functioning of the department and the nexus between politicians, corporate honchos, journalists and power brokers going under various names like PR agencies and lobbyists, it says.
While criticising the government for its obstinate stand against a JPC and questioning the appointment of P.J. Thomas as CVC,it says There is no denying the fact that under the present leadership, both in the Congress and the UPA,governance has been given a quiet burial. While ministers are all functioning as independent and autonomous suzerainties, public accountability and transparency are forgotten words,it claims.
A coterie rules the country. An elite club of people directly reporting (to) and loyal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi call the shots. The position and prerogative of the prime minister have been undermined. The real suckers are the people of India, who remain in the eternal hope that one day,our nation would be corruption free and it would be governed by the tenets of our dharma, it says.
The spreading taint
An article by M.V. Kamath in Organiser points to the need for a change in political thinking in the light of this wave of corruption cases. Interestingly,he does not omit the BJPs chief minister in Karnataka,B. S. Yeddyurappa, while talking about the season of corruption.
He says that watching spokespersons of political parties slugging it out on matters of corruption has often made him feel like throwing up,and the tragedy was that every party is projected as guilty.
The time has come for starting a cleansing process or strengthening an existing system that sends a signal to one and all parties in a coalition government, ministers in a coalition cabinet, bureaucrats and politicians that those guilty of corruption will have to pay a high price,he argues.
While he makes a case for political parties to urgently begin some sort of introspection,he claims that the Congress is a lost cause as one expects nothing from it considering its record in the past two years. The BJP,he says, has a special role to play in this regard,as does the RSS.
Unified separatists
An article in the RSSs Hindi weekly Panchjanya trains its guns at Kashmiri separatist leaders raising the azadi demand and the Congress for turning a blind eye towards separatist activity. It argues that anti-India forces like Maoists, elements supporting the Khalistan movement, leftists and so-called progressive writers are supporting pro-Pakistan separatist leaders. It claims that, nudged by China and Pakistan, this emerging alliance of leftists,Khalistanis,Kashmiri separatists and Maoists could threaten the unity of India. Referring to the visit of separatist leaders to Delhi and Chandigarh, the article says that it is becoming clear that separatist forces in the Valley, which want Kashmirs secession from India, are spreading their wings further. The government and the Congress, however, are still continuing with their traditional policy of Muslim appeasement. It is unfortunate, it says.
