While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described Maoist violence as the biggest internal security threat, the lead article in RSS mouthpiece Organiser by Subramanian Swamy says Islamic terrorism is even more serious.

His argument: By 2012,Taliban would take over Pakistan and the US would flee from Aghanistan. “Then Islam will confront Hinduism to complete unfinished business,” he says. He tries to debunk the theory that terrorists are born or bred because of poverty, oppression and discrimination and views it as a political as well as ideological battle.

To negate the political goals of Islamic terrorism in India,he advocates striking down of Article 370,implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, enactment of a national law prohibiting conversion and development of the Hindu mindset among others.

Interestingly,Swamy, writing in the RSS journal, was critical of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government’s decision to free three terrorists in lieu of passengers onboard a hijacked Indian Airlines plane. He calls the episode the worst capitulation to terrorists in India’s modern history wherein terrorists were escorted by a senior minister on the PM’s special plane as royal guests. “The whole Kandahar episode proves that we should never negotiate with terrorists, never yield,”

he says.

Count me out

At a time when the BJP is struggling to formulate a unified line on caste-based census,Organiser has published the views expressed by RSS Sarkaryavah Bhaiyaji Joshi against such a head count. He says the counting of castes will weaken the efforts of social harmony and national integration and will ruin the dream of a caste-less society.

Sensing that the BJP was a divided house on the issue, the RSS made public its views, which many felt has put the main Opposition under pressure. On an OBC count,Joshi was of the view that separate standards should be adopted for that purpose and felt that it would be wrong to take a decision without consulting various social groups.

Communist communalists

The RSS feels that CPM is playing a desperate Hindu card in Kerala. The views came in the context of the war of words between the CPM and Jamaat-e-Islami leadership. Analysing the developments,an article in the Organiser says the CPM has,all along, had a hide and seek relationship with Jamaat-e-Islami to counter the influence of the Muslim League and had shared a working relationship with the outfit. “The sudden volte face of the CPM could be attributed to the fact that the party finds it tough to wean the Muslim votes with the Muslim League and the NDF strongly in the (Congress-led) UDF fold and calculated that if the party supported Jamat-e-Islami then there would be a strong Hindu backlash and that it would affect its prospects in the coming panchayat elections,” it says.

The CPM,it says, has realised that its association with PDP’s Abdul Nasser Madani has not gone down well with the Hindu community and hence is taking a stand against Jamaat to appease the majority community.

The Jharkhand challenge

In the wake of the developments in Jharkhand,an article in the RSS mouthpiece says that although the BJP is out of power it is not the end of the road for the party,as it is still the biggest political outfit with a well knit organisational base in the state. But “having lost face by its flip-flops,the BJP will have to learn lessons from recent history and take a principled stand. It will have to weed out undesirable elements that have managed to sneak in to enjoy fruits of power.” “It has also the option of winning back the estranged former Chief Minister Babu Lal Marandi who despite the serious mistakes he made as chief minister is perceived to be a far better human being and more ethical politician than the likes of Shibu Soren,” it says.
