Congress seeks time for internal polls

The EC had earlier this month rejected its second demand for a one-year extension, sought in December last year.

The Congress has sought more time from the Election Commission (EC) to hold internal elections in the party. Sources, however, said that the request this time was for a “small” deferment, unlike on two earlier occasions when the party had sought one-year extensions. The poll panel has asked the party to conclude the organisational election process by June this year.
