MUMBAI FEBRUARY 10: Long-serving cricket statistician Shashikant Zarapkar passed away here early today after a prolonged illness. He was 63 and a bachelor. Zarapkar functioned as a cricket statistician for well over four decades.
His end came at midnight at the Motiben Dalvi Hospital where he was admitted after a brief illness. Zarapkar was well known for his memory and he was part of talk show along with Madhav Mantri and Ravindra Patkar during the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. After Mantri and Patkar’s show gets over, Zarapkar would be the centre of attraction as cricket lovers threw questions at him and he answered it correctly.
He was also known for his love of books and collection of autographs and photographs of cricketers. He has one with the legendry Sir Len Hutton when the former English captain had come down to Mumbai. Hutton had asked him how many sixes he had hit in his knock of 364. Zarapkar quickly replied none and told the number of fours he had hit. Hutton was impressed and patted hisback. Zarapkar also had the unusual talent to spot an number and connect some cricket statistic with it.
