
NEW DELHI, June 28: Young Boys continued their winning spree when they defeated strong contenders Golden Stars by a solitary goal in a crucial group 1 match of the DSA-SAIL A division football league championship at Nehru Stadium here today.
Young Boys have collected 10 points from five matches while Golden Stars have seven from four matches.
Spirited Young Boys, combining well through their medios Habib-ur-Rehman, Atvik and Bhavesh Mazi, started the game at a fast pace and created many inroads in the opponents8217; area. In the 10th minute of the proceedings, following a handling of the ball by a Golden Stars8217; defender inside the box, referee G. Rangarajan awarded a penalty in favour of Young Boys which was converted by striker Zahidul-Islam.
Thereafter, Young Boys maintained their pressure through good moves initiated from both flanks by substitute Om Parkash who came in place of Habibur-Rehman, Saidul Islam and Sayasachi Mitra. In the 25th minute of the game, Zahidul Islam8217;s fine volley on a direct kick from 25 yards found the net was disallowed by linesman Joginder Singh.
In the second half, Golden Stars tried their best to get an equaliser but their forwards missed the targets.
In a group B match at Ambedkar Stadium, State Bank of India were held to a goalless draw by Ahbab. In A8217; division matches, Lodhi A.C. trounced Banga Darshan 6-0, The scorers were Yashbir 2, Padam 2, Mukesh and Inder.
In B8217; Division, Union beat Delhi Tigers 2-0. Scorers were Natraj and Vipin.
Punjab Heroes beat Shakti 2-1. Chandeswar and Arun Tripathi scored for the winners while Sameer reduced the margin for Shakti.
Panchkuian troucned Y.B.A. 8-0. Scorers were Tarun 4, Kuldip Sanjay, Sonekar and Chandel.
In a crucial A8217; division match, Royal Rangers improved their position by edging past strong contenders Jat Heroes 1-0. Ricky Chhak scored the winning goal in the 29th minute.
