
CHANDIGARH, May 8: The World Red Cross Day with quot;Donate Blood-Save Lifequot; as the theme for this year, was celebrated jointly by the Punjab Red Cross and St. John Ambulance Association of India, Punjab branch, here today.
Speaking on the occasion Nirmal Singh Bhatal, deputy secretary, Punjab Red Cross, stressed upon the need for voluntary blood donation. He said that there existed a great gap between the blood needed and blood collected in one year.
To commemorate the International Thalassemia Day, the Thalassemic Children Welfare is organising a series of six blood donation camps in the basement of Lecture Theatre 1 of PGI to meet the shortage of blood. The camps will be held on May 9, May 23, June 6, June 20, July 4, July 8, from 8 am to 2 pm.
