The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) in Punjab is constructing the city’s first helipad in Phase 8, opposite its office and in front of the Rural Development and Panchayats Department building. Being developed , the work on the helipad is expected to be completed by Monday.

Sakshi Sahni, Chief Administrator, GMADA, said this would be the first ground-level helipad to be built in Mohali. “The helipad is being constructed as per the directions received from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. It is being developed on a temporary basis and will be dismantled later,” she added.

A private company has been awarded the work to build the helipad over an area of about 1,000 sq m on the vacant plot. Sources said the base of the helipad is being prepared using cement tiles. Officials said the site has been secured with barbed wire fencing. Construction has been going on round the clock for the past three days following instructions to complete it at the earliest.

The helipad will not be accessible to the general public and will be used exclusively for the movement of VIPs, officials added.
