
The Indian Armed Forces have won the rights to host the fourth World Military Games, scheduled for 2007. It has been decided that the Games will be held in Hyderabad.
Announcing the successful bid, Air Marshal AK Singh said that the decision would be ratified by the CISM, the world military sports council at a meeting next month. 8216;8216;This is the first time that the games will be held outside Europe and we are hoping that nearly 3000 military personnel from over 100 countries will come to India to participate in the meet,8217;8217; said Singh.
According to him, they would compete in 13 disciplines including parachuting, shooting, boxing, archery and swimming. Two demonstration sports8212; hockey and kabaddi8212;have been included as a part of the schedule.
The decision to hold the games in Hyderabad was taken in November last year after the CISM scrutinised the infrastructure available at the venue that also hosted the Afro-Asian Games last year, Air Marshal Singh said.
