Experts have suggested no “major corrective measures” to set right the suspect bowling action of pacer Shabbir Ahmed, Pakistan Cricket Board has said.

Ahmed has received “encouraging” reports from the experts at the human movement and sciences department of University of Western Australia.

“The first reports are encouraging. The people who have examined him have indicated that they are not pushed with his bowling action and it does not require major corrective measures,” PCB chief executive Rameez Raza said. Shabbir was reported to the ICC for a suspect bowling action by umpires Billy Bowden and Darrell Hair after the fifth and final One-Day International against New Zealand in Wellington on January 18.

Following this the PCB had sent him to Perth where the Australian bowling coach Daryl Foster would decide if there was anything wrong with Shabbir’s action and if any major corrective measures were required.

“We are encouraged by the first reports which show that Shabbir’s action might not have to be corrected a great deal,” Raja was quoted as saying by the local media. He said the PCB would send the clearance and work report from the University on Shabbir’s action to the International Cricket Council after receiving copies of it.

Raja said the fast bowler was “definitely” under consideration for the home series against India.

“We wanted him to be available for selection and which is why we have sent him to Australia for specialist care as we had done in Shoaib Akhtar’s case.”

Raja also made it clear that since the video replay of Shabbir’s bowling action from the fifth and final ODI had not been received as yet, his official six week supervision period for the first stage of the review process had not started as yet.
