Indian Cricket League ICL maybe a taboo in BCCI circles but BCCI President Sharad Pawar was on Thursday asked to unveil the logo of the rebel venture, thanks to a gaffe by BCCI8217;s firebrand Vice-President Lalit Modi.
Mastermind behind the Indian Premier League, BCCI8217;s answer to the ICL, Modi was to invite BCCI President Sharad Pawar to unveil the logo of the Indian Premier League.
Describing it as the beginning of a 8216;momentous journey8217;, Modi invited Pawar to unveil the logo of the 8216;Indian Cricket League8217;, which had the audience in splits.
Modi was soon to realise the goof-up as he smiled rather embarrassingly and took his seat.
Later, while spelling out the details of the league, Modi, however, took the opportunity to snub the ICL and asserted IPL was not a reaction to the rebel league.
8220;This not a knee-jerk reaction to any tournament but genuine project of ours which we have been working on for close to two years,8221; Modi said.
He also reiterated that players who join ICL would have BCCI8217;s door slammed on them.
8220;There maybe many other unauthorised tournaments but BCCI has made its stand clear and there has been no change in it.8221;
