YSR Cong,BJP may pull off a surprise

The YSR Congress looks set to snatch the Kovur constituency in Nellore and the BJP the Mahbubnagar seat, embarrassing the ruling Congress.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress YSR Congress and BJP may spring surprises in the bypolls to seven Assembly constituencies to be held on Sunday. The bypolls are being held in six constituencies in Telangana and one in coastal district of Nellore. The YSR Congress looks set to snatch the Kovur constituency in Nellore and the BJP the Mahbubnagar seat, embarrassing the ruling Congress.

While the bypolls in five of the constituencies were necessitated due to the resignation of sitting MLAs in support of the Telangana statehood demand,Mahbubnagar is seeing an election because the sitting Congress MLA died. In Kovur, the sitting TDP MLA had resigned in support of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The TRS is hoping to sweep all the six Telangana constituencies on the strength of the statehood sentiment.

However, the BJP has upset its calculations in Mahbubnagar, the lone constituency it is contesting,

by also running on a separate state plank.

In Kovur, the battle is essentially between the YSR Congress and the TDP. YSR Congresss candidate N Prasanna Kumar Reddy was the sitting TDP MLA who quit and joined Jaganmohans party. The TDP has fielded his uncle,Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy.

A four-time winner from the constituency,Prasanna Kumar Reddy looks set to embarrass the Congress and crush the TDPs challenge. This is despite the fact that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi have campaigned for the Congress.

In an indication of the prestige at stake,TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Jaganmohan also toured the constituency extensively.
