UP seeks NCRB help to identify riot victim

Three months after it failed to identify a Muslim youth killed in the Muzaffarnagar riots,the special investigation cell SIC has sought help from the National Crime Record Bureau NCRB for identifying the victim.

A report on the youths details,including the belongings recovered on the body,has been sent to NCRB through the State Crime Record Bureau. The police contacted the locals of Dhawlda and other adjoining villages to confirm the identity. The victims photograph was published in local newspapers and displayed at relief camps. Later,the police contacted counterparts of neighbouring districts and sought reports on missing persons. SIC officials said no one turned up to claim the body.

The police had recovered the youths body bearing injury marks from an open field at Dhawlda village in Titawi police station area of Muzaffarnagar on September 9. The autopsy report said the injuries were caused by sharp weapons.

Investigating officer of the case,sub-inspector Raja Ram, who is attached with the SIC,confirmed that a report has been sent to the NCRB and its help sought to ascertain if the deceased belonged to another state.

We are also planning to paste posters with the photograph and other details in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts. Plans are also afoot to distribute pamphlets in trains, said a police officer.

65-yr old awaits DNA report for sons ID

Sixty-five-year-old Mohammad Mustakeem Saifi is waiting for a DNA report for the last one month that would confirm if the body of a youth,recovered from Muzaffarnagar on September 7 after the riots broke out,is that of his son Mohammad Nazim,21. The body bears gunshot injury and those caused by sticks. A native of Lakh village,Saifi identified the body with his photograph provided by the police and the belongings recovered on the body. The police turned down his claim and decided to go for a DNA profiling as they said the place where the body was recovered was 70 km from Lakh village. Family said the police have buried the body but have not told them the exact place in the graveyard where the burial took place. The family has not applied for compensation. ens
