The death toll in the wall collapse of an anganwadi centre in Nayagarh district rose to seven on Tuesday with the death of two more children.
A day after the wall collapse,the state government announced a review of all the 71,000 anganwadi centres and ordered relocation of the unsafe ones.
While Alisha Jena 5 died at SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack,Pradumnya Pradhan 3 succumbed at a private hospital here in the morning. Five who died on Monday were identified as Somnath Totala,Chiku Kandi,Sachin Ray,Ankita and Sonali Pradhan.
The wall of a room of the anganwadi centre operating in an abandoned room of Nelia Upper Primary School campus at Suansia Sahi village collapsed on Monday when 11 children were having their mid-day meal along with three adults a cook,a helper and the mother of a child.
Parents of the victims accused the Nayagarh district administration of allowing the anganwadi centre to operate from the dilapidated building.
Women and Child Development secretary Arati Ahuja said collectors have been directed to submit report on safety of the anganwadi centres by July 13. The government,meanwhile,suspended the headmistress of the school and showcaused two anganwadi workers for not informing authorities about the poor condition of the classroom.
