Shah Rukh Khan produces documentary on Mughal-E-Azam,aims to preserve his all-time hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and classics like Sholay and Pakeezah.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has decided to do his own bit for preserving Hindi cinema by producing a documentary on Mughal-E-Azam. The 20-minute film titled Mughal-E-Azam: A Tribute From Akbar Asif To K. Asif, which is a combined effort of King Khans production house Red Chillies,Morani brothers, filmmaker K. Asifs family and artist M. F. Husain, who recreated the fabulously-mounted scenes of the film in a series of paintings, was recently launched at a suburban Mumbai hotel.
Khan confessed that the documentary was his tribute to Indian cinema. Making this documentary is not a business but a heart-felt tribute to Hindi cinema, and I would request more people from the film industry to come forward and help preserve more iconic movies. Whenever I face any obstacles as a filmmaker I think of the hardships Asif saab underwent to make his dream come true and it motivates me to work harder, said the superstar.
Explaining how he got involved with the project,Khan said,I was shooting in London when I met K. Asifs family members and saw their eagerness to keep the film alive. Akbar Asif K. Asifs son along with Shapoorji Mistry had already released a colourised version of the film in 2006 and now wanted to preserve the movie. Khan is also thinking along the lines of preserving films of Satyajit Ray,and iconic movies like Sholay,Paakezah and maybe his own Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. As for working in Mughal-E-Azam,he clearly stated that the film was the mother of all movies and cannot be remade. We may be more advanced technically but I dont think we can get even close to Mughal-E-Azam in terms of performances, dialogues and spirit.
SRK said that the evergreen classic Pyaar kiya to darna kya and Prithviraj Kapoors famous line,Salim tujhe marne nahin denge aur hum Anarkali, tumhe jeene nahin denge, still give him goosebumps.
