Since the inauguration of the Swargate metro station extension in 2024, Pune Metro has not seen any major updates or inaugurations of new lines. The much-awaited Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi route is expected to be opened in March 2026, after prolonged delays.
A Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) official recently told The Indian Express that even though repeated extensions had been granted for the construction, no further extensions would be granted for the route.
The construction of the 4.5-km PCMC-Nigdi overhead extension of the Purple Line is also underway. However, work on the Swargate-Katraj underground extension of the Aqua Line is yet to begin.
