Hours after a video of an allegedly inebriated man urinating amid stationary vehicles at a traffic signal in Vadodara went viral on Tuesday, city police arrested the accused under relevant provisions of the Prohibition Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.
The accused, Ganesh Sonawane (26), was arrested by the Gorwa police based on the video widely shared on social media. In the purported clip, Sonawane is allegedly seen getting off his motorcycle at a traffic signal during peak hours and relieving himself in public view, in the middle of the road. As other motorists are seen protesting and commenting on his conduct, the man is seen getting back on his motorcycle and leaving without responding to those around him.

An FIR was registered late Tuesday night, following which Sonawane was arrested from his residence in Laxmipura. Police said he was found to be in an inebriated state and was booked under provisions of the Prohibition Act and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which criminalises driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Police Inspector K N Lathiya of Gorwa police station said, “The city police has been working on a continuous drive to implement law and order in the New Year’s week. As part of the same, a video was received through social media of a man who urinated in public at a traffic signal. As per the directions of the superiors, a team of the Gorwa police station, under the leadership of Police Sub-Inspector M R Gangani, tracked down the accused with the help of human intelligence within hours after he was seen indulging in a disgraceful act. He has been booked under the Prohibition Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.”
