All schools across the state will now reopen after January 7, unless further directions are issued by the Punjab Government, the order stated.
The Punjab Government has extended winter holidays for all government, private, private aided, and recognised schools across the state in view of the prevailing cold wave and dense fog conditions.
Winter vacations in schools, which were originally scheduled from December 24 to December 31, have now been extended up to January 7, 2026, according to an official order issued by Anandita Mitra, Secretary, School Education Department.
The order said that the decision was taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid severe cold and low visibility conditions across the state.
The order further said that the extension of holidays was in continuation of an earlier notification, dated December 15, through which the winter break had been announced.
Punjab has been experiencing a sharp fall in temperatures along with persistent fog, particularly during morning as well as evening hours, affecting normal life and transportation in several districts. Sources said that the situation would be reviewed closer to the reopening date, depending on weather conditions.
