The Chhattisgarh transport department has collected a fine of over Rs five crore in the month of July for flouting traffic rules under a special drive run to improve vehicular sense and decrease road rage.

According to official sources,the traffic and transport department fined overloaded goods and passenger vehicles and those causing pollution besides those without reflectors and collected fine to the tune Rs 5,15,47,000.

More than Rs 89 lakhs were was collected from 937 overload goods vehicle challans while 348 overburdened passenger rides were fined at Rs 2,21,000,they said.

Similarly,4139 vehicles were penalised with more than Rs 54 lakh for plying without pollution-free certificates while 138 others had to pay for running reflectors,sources said.

Additional Transport Commissioner B S Maravi said directives have issued to keep a check on vehicles without permit.
