The man,his movements and his missions

Zabiuddin Ansari has admitted he was involved. He acted under the instructions of a Pakistan-based LeT commander with the codename Junaid,who had met him and Fayyaz Kagazi in Kathmandu in November 2005. Ansari and Kagazi were trained in fabrication and deployment of improvised explosive devices. Ansari purchased the material for the IED and he,along with Kagazi,was involved in planning the attack and preparing the device.

Aurangabad arms haul

May 9,2006

Ansari had admitted he was involved. The haul included 16 AK-47 rifles and 43kg RDX. Ansari received the consignment from someone called Ahmed on the highway in Nashik and travelled towards Aurangabad,changing routes and reaching Aurangabad after leaving the vehicle with a certain Dr Sharif.

Meeting with Lakhvi

After 26/11,Ansari escaped raids and shifted base several times (see map) before moving to Rawalpindi. He sought a meeting with the LeT’s Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi in Adiala jail. LeT operative Muzammil arranged the meeting through Abu Bakr,who had a room opposite the jail. Bakr escorted Ansari and Khalid alias Wasi to the jail gate. Their entry was not recorded,their identity cards not checked. Apart from Lakhvi,Ansari met Abu Al Qama,Hamaad and Yunus,who is alleged to have provided money to Shahid alias Nadeem.

LeT today

SEA WING. LeT has resumed operations since early 2011.

AIR WING. LeT is training operatives in paragliding so that they can carry out operations.

LAKHVI. Despite being in jail,he is still active and directing LeT operations.

Beed,until 2005

Zabiuddin Ansari,now 30,was born in Gevrai town of the district. He went to a zilla parishad school and to ITI in Beed,where he did an electrical course. Went missing in 2005,when he was studying for a master’s.

Kathmandu,Nov 2005

Trained along with Fayyaz Kagazi in fabrication and deployment of IEDs.

Aurangabad,May 2006

Escaped in a Tata Indica as Maharashtra ATS chased down a Tata Sumo from which a large arms consignment was recovered.

Bangladesh,May 2006

Reached Kolkata from Aurangabad on Kagazi’s instructions,crossed over to Bangladesh.

Karachi,May 2006

Flew to Karachi from Bangladesh,emerged out of the airport without immigration formalities. Stayed at Lashkar safe house.

Rawalpindi,2006

While staying at a Lashkar safe house,met Junaid,in-charge of Lashkar’s India and Bangladesh operations,and senior Lashkar commander Muzammil Butt. Kagazi too reached Pindi via Iran.

Mansehra,Sep 2006

Completed Daura-e-Aam,and was assigned the name Abu Jundal.
