Like previous Chinese leaders,Hu Jintao to Li Peng to Zhou Enlai,Li too will meet the doctors family, whose heroic deed of saving Chinese soldiers during the war with the Japanese 1937 to 1942 has been immortalised by V Shantarams movie,Dr Kotnis ki Amar Kahani. TECH SAVVY

THE Navy achieved a unique first on Tuesday by becoming the first defence service that used teleconferencing to conduct one of its most high-profile conferences that involve top officers. For the first time, the annual Naval Commanders Conference was held via a secure video link. Defence Minister A K Antony gave an address that was attended virtually by commanders in Mumbai,Vizag and Kochi. The new feature has cut down the travelling time and costs for senior commanders who have to spend several days in Delhi during the conference.

DESIGN HURDLE

THE plan for creating a common space on the banks of Yamuna for purposes of cremation and memorials of important leaders has hit a design hurdle. The Ministry of Urban Development, which proposes to construct the memorial complex, the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, had organised a design competition and invited eminent architects to suggest designs. With no design getting unanimous backing, the committee entrusted with the job has abandoned the idea and asked the Central Public Works Department to finalise a design. The issue will come up in the Cabinet meeting this week. The memorial is proposed to have a crematorium adjoining the area. All big leaders would be cremated here and their memorials would be built.

2-WHEELER TROUBLE

V NARAYANSAMY,the Minister of State in charge of Personnel and Training as well as the PMO,landed in Delhi on Monday from his weekend trip to his native place Puducherry, only to return immediately. The reason: his wife met with an accident while riding pillion on a two-wheeler and had to be rushed to a hospital with minor injuries. For people in Puducherry, the news that the ministers wife was riding on a two-wheeler is not surprising, considering that Chief Minister N Rangasamy himself normally rides a motorcycle.
