Taiwan stocks closed flat on Thursday as a stronger Taiwan dollar raised worries that major technology exporters including chipmaker TSMC could see foreign exchanges losses.
The main TAIEX share index inched down 0.11 points to close at 8,283.92. TSMC shares fell 0.8 per cent, pulling the broader electronics sub-index 0.07 per cent lower.
But smartphone maker HTC Corp rose 1.11 per cent as its quarterly profit almost doubled.
While big techs weakened, investors shifted their focus to growth stocks in the traditional industries. The cement sub-index jumped 1.6 per cent and the financial sector was up 0.6 per cent.
